Welcome to the 2010 - 2012 WINNERS Contest! WINNERS! - WIN's Next Evolutionary, Revolutionary Scientist. This annual contest is designed to further promote science, engineering, math and technology in students K-12, sponsered by Region IV Women In Nuclear.This year's theme is entitled "Save the World from Giant Asteroid".We are inviting brave young minds to take on the problem of an asteroid heading to earth that will destroy the planet. WINNERS are required to design a way to "Save the World-from the Asteroid"
FACTS ABOUT SAVE THE WORLD CONTEST
DURATION : March 31, 2010 to May 31, 2012.
QUALIFICATION OF THE STUDENTS : Students from Kindergarten through 12 th grade can enter the contest. Only two entries per person is allowed. To enter the contest, students must become members of WINNERs. A free on line application is found on the WINNERs website section.
PURPOSE : The contest is to engage the students in the field of engineering, technology, science, math and to see the altruistic benefits these fields have to give to humanity.
HOW? There are two submission forms that must be completed to enter the contest. The first is for an associate membership to WIN Region IV entitled WINNERS. The purpose of this membership is to let us contact you in regards to this contest and further activities such as contests or other science opportunities. This information will not be sold or distributed. Members will not be contacted regarding any opportunities that require purchases.
The contest submission form must be filled out completely and submitted with a project. Students may submit individually or in a group or both. Two submissions per person is allowed. All submittals will be electronic. You can design your project using a website, or other media, like Youtube or by other electronic means. Make sure you reference all these sites so the judges may view your project work. All documents submitted should be the original work by the applicants. All supporting reference material should be given credit in your documentation in your project on how to save the world.
JUDGES : This year's contest will be judged by an international panel of experts from (but not limited to) the University of the Missouri Nuclear Science and Engineering Institute, the Russian Asteroid Research Project, the French Nuclear Industry, NASA and more.
WHAT IS A WINNING SUBMISSION? Judges will be given a 50 point scale by which to grade the submissions. 10 points each will be assigned to the categories of Quality of the Submission, Creativity of the Idea, Scientific Feasibility of the Project, Originality and Ease of Implementation. The submission with the highest score in each level will win for that level. The Overall Winner will be selected at the judges' descretion from the Level of Winners.
LEGAL DETAILS : All project submittals become the sole property of WIN Region IV. The overall winning project will be reviewed for a PhD research project for pursuing possible implementation at one of the space asteroid programs.
