WIN Region IV Conference Call (November 19, 2009)

WIN  -  REGION IV  MINUTES
NOVEMBER 19TH, 2009

Welcome Members and Positions Janese Neher, Marsha Eades, Denise Brandon, Savannah Avgerinos, Lynne Valdez (?) and Pauline Alten were present when the meeting was called to order shortly after noon.

Meeting Minutes(Latricia):

• Approved as read with two corrections.

WIN Conference in Seattle and Conference Plans for Region IV WIN (Pauline Alten-SONGS)

• Jan said that Fadi Diya(Region IV Exec. Dir.) is putting up $$ to help finance Region IV conference. Discussion about passing this responsibility around region so costs are shared w/everyone. Exec. Dir. Position should be taken by CEO/CNO of next chair in 2010. Fadi will bring it up at next VP's meeting. Ballpark figure for 2 yrs. was ~$30,000. It covered all expenses for 2009 conference. except for flights and hotel rooms. Pauline pointed out that our charter would need to be changed to do this. President would only hosts one year, then in-coming president would host after that. We'll get feedback from Fadi when he has more info. All expenses paid trip except for flight s and hotel.
• Pauline's plant has already gotten approval for funding for next Regional conference "Nuclear Knowledge is Power" near her plant (SONGS). It will be promoted w/ local teachers. We will fly into Orange County, CA. Region IV Conference is before the national conference starting on Thursday. Pauline checking on transportation to Seattle by train. There could be presentations on the train by members. Potential for Columbia plant tour during Nat'l conference, which starts Sun. evening w/reception.

WIN Region IV Website (Vivian Wagnon-STP-Janese)

• Jenny Schutte's husband David is updating and running our website.

Status of Thank-you's (Peggy Henderson-Luminant)

• No response from Peggy yet. They are going through an outage.

Project status for WINNERs (Janese Neher and Elizabeth Ptasznik)

• Jan talked w/Fadi about WINners Project, which is the outreach for K-12. Jan is working w/national labs in Region IV on topic "Asteroid Coming to Earth: How to Save the Earth." Educational materials are out there. Fadi is putting up money for the contest.

Outreach for Women and Men for Nuclear and University Chapters (Elizabeth Ptasznik and Amanda Reed)

• Lynn gave report on activities @ MU to raise awareness and recruit members. 1st Annual all-day kickball tournament last summer had 20 students. This semester has had presentations @ MU and Rolla. Next semester there are plans to travel to IL. Universities to have fellowship night for meeting students and promoting WIN.
• The WIN student chapter sponsored a seminar by Matt Arri and a pizza dinner @ MU in October. The Callaway plant paid for the pizza; the student chapter paid for sodas through NSEI.
• The activities are being used for recruiting members.
• Amanda Reed is trying to do outreaches to non-members w/ community involvement, i.e., at the Ameren plant, info meetings @ MU, and trying to get WIN members enrolled at NASA.
• Marsha wants to get Energy NW (WA State) ads on website. Can we solicit ads from other companies? She (?) will contact Carol B. to check.
• A local company has already asked to help sponsor WIN conference.
• Marsha is having fund-raising events and brown bag lunches w/ great success.

After call, Marsha and Jan talked about first chair sponsoring 2 meetings. If Jan (chair) sponsored last year and this year, Pauline will sponsor next 2 years. By-laws state only 1 meeting is sponsored per site.
