Mission Statement
To provide and support a cohesive association comprised of Region IV facilities committed to ensuring women and men are successful in the nuclear energy and nuclear technology fields by promoting professional development, supplying factual information and resource tools, educating the general public including K-12 and WIN university students, and encouraging women to enhance interpersonal and leadership skills through peer networking applications.

- Membership
- Women in Nuclear (WIN) Region IV is composed of all Women in Nuclear chapters and Women for Nuclear chapters composed of women and men in Region IV who have completed and submitted a membership application found on the Region IV website, NEI website or their local chapter WIN applications. All applications are filed at NEI WIN.
- Women in Nuclear Region IV are directed by a Board of Directors.
- At a minimum Board of Directors meetings are conducted quarterly by way of tele-conference calls.
- At a minimum, an annual meeting of WIN Region IV membership will occur during the US WIN Conference. The meeting will be coordinated by the Board of Directors.
- A Quarterly conference call will be conducted with the WIN Region IV Chapters Representatives/Members to inform the chapter membership of recent Board decisions and directions and to further discuss Region IV issues. The call will be led by the Chairman, Chairman Elect or Past Chairman.
- Board decisions are made by voting with a majority rule.

- Responsibilities
The WIN Region IV Board is responsible for the formulation of programs and policies for WIN Region IV. The Board is composed of the following positions: Chairman, Chairman Elect, Past Chairman, three Regional Directors, an Executive Director, Secretary, Committee Directors, University Directors (non voting), Region IV Representative to US WIN Steering Committee, and two Chapter representatives. These are elected positions and are voted on during the WIN Region IV annual meeting by the Region IV members with a majority rule. Position appointments by the Board may occur during the year, however, these appointed positions should be voted on by members of Region IV during the annual meeting.
WIN Region IV Committees:
WIN committees are a vital part of the WIN Region IV Board which will develop, organize and implement various activities. Members serve for 2 years. One committee member will serve as the Committee Director. The Committee Directors are voting members on the WIN Region IV Board.
Roles and Functions
Chairman of the WIN Region IV Board:
The role of the Chairman is to lead Region IV toward the fulfillment of the strategic plan objectives. The Chairman serves a two year term and is a voting member on the WIN Region IV Board.
Functions include:
- Aids in planning and implementing a strategic plan for the year
- Preside at all the Board of director meetings
- Reside at all Region IV meeting and conferences
- Recommends members for Board approval to fill any vacancies of appointed positions for the current year
- Serves as a liaison to committees and task forces
- Carries out responsibilities as requested at all Board meetings
Chairman Elect
This position is elected by the membership and takes office at the annual WIN conference. The Chairman Elect serves a two year term on the Board prior to assuming the office of Chairman of the Board. This position is a voting member on the Region IV WIN Board. In the absence of the Chairman, this position assumes the roles of the Chairman with all its authority and responsibilities.
Functions include:
- Aids in planning and implementing a strategic plan for the year
- May preside at all the Board of director meetings.
- May reside at all Region IV meeting and conferences
- Recommends members for Board approval to fill any vacancies of appointed positions for the current year.
- Serves as a liaison to committees and task forces.
- Carries out responsibilities as requested at all Board meetings.
Past Chairman
This position serves on the Board after their commitment as Chairman of the WIN Region IV Board has been completed. This position is a two year term on the Board and to serve as a voting member of the Region IV WIN Board. This is also a mentoring position to the WIN Region IV Board.
Functions include:
- Participates in the strategic planning for the upcoming year.
- Serves as liaison to committees and task forces.
- Plans and implements special project(s). The project(s) may be tasks not completed during the Chairman’s term of office.
- Coordinates articles to be published for the Winning Edge Newsletter.
- Recruits nominees for the open Board/Committee positions.
Secretary:
The role of the secretary is to oversee the recording of all official WIN Region IV business and to distribute those records to the Board members and the website. In addition, these records will be placed on the WIN Region IV website. The Secretary serves a two year term and is a voting position on the Board.
Functions include:
- Reviews the minutes of the Board meetings.
- Submits the minutes to the Board of Directors for approval.
- Takes minutes during any executive sessions of the Board of Directors.
- Takes minutes at the quarterly Region IV chapter and membership meetings.
- Causing all official action to be appropriately placed on the website.
- Maintains the WIN Region IV membership roster current and the website.
Executive Director
This position on the WIN Region IV Board is responsible for overseeing and mentoring the Board. This is a two year term and is a voting position on the Board.
Functions include:
- Facilitating, coordinating, and monitoring efforts to achieve strategic plan goals and objectives and providing assistance as appropriate.
- Provides for program continuity and consistency.
- Mentor Board members.
- Manages the flow of information concerning the WIN Board to other Vice Presidents Nuclear Plants in Region IV.
Regional Directors
There are three regional directors who participate in the establishment of strategic plans and policies and advisement on committees. The Regional Directors serves as a two year term and is a voting position on the Board.
Functions include:
- Formulates and recommends policies and procedures that will enhance the overall functioning of Region IV WIN.
- Generates ideas regarding the future of Region IV WIN including WIN’s mission and revisions to WIN’s strategic plan.
- Advises, monitors, and participates in Board and committee meetings.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with the chapters and universities.
- Represents the Board and WIN in an appropriate manner at all times.
- Challenges and motivates the WIN Region IV members.
- Assist in the development of outreach efforts and legislative and community relations programs.
University Directors
The University Directors promote WIN University chapters and act as a liaison between the University WIN Chapters and the Region IV Board. This is a non-voting position.
Functions include:
- Participates on the WIN Board
- Keeps the Board informed of University Chapter status, needs and successes
- Communicates with the university chapters of their needs and the Board activities.
Public Liaison
This position is an elected position by the membership in attendance at the annual Region IV conference and takes office at the annual WIN Conference. It is a two year term on the Board and is a voting position.
Functions include:
- Keeps the Board informed of the needs of the members of the public regarding educating the public regarding nuclear energy and new nuclear plant construction
- Host activities and participates in activities representing WIN Region IV regarding informing the legislature, public and K-12 regarding nuclear energy and new nuclear
- Request Board members' participation and chapter participation in activities that helps educate the members of the public, k-12, university students and the legislature regarding nuclear energy
- Responds to any other requests by the Board or activities that relate to this position
Region IV Representative to the US National WIN Steering Committee
The Region IV Representative to the US WIN Steering Committee represents US Region IV WIN. This is a voting position.
Functions include:
- Keeps the Board informed of actions taken by the US WIN Steering Committee.
- Advocates and provides suggestions from the Region IV Board to the US WIN Steering Committee.
WIN Chapter Representatives
There are two or more WIN Chapter Representatives that are identified as a member of a WIN chapter in Region IV. These positions are not a part of the Region IV Board nor are these voting positions on the Board.
Functions include:
- Represents their local chapter in Region IV.
- Communicates to Region IV the needs and directions of their local chapter.
- Directs the Board in fulfilling their local chapter needs.
- Actively participates in the quarterly conference calls in WIN Region 4 teleconference calls.
- Committees
- Communications - Communicates with chapters and members, keeps the website current and issues the newsletter.
- Professional Development and Education
- Support-Policy and Legislation
- Mentoring and Exchange and Training-(Conference Committee)
- Membership- which includes regional, site and university chapters.
- Voting Committee –Not an active committee. This is not a voting position on the Board. It is established prior to the election of Board/committee members. The committee prepares the slate of candidates for various positions, counts the votes, and announces election results to members. The committee will be chaired by the outgoing Region IV Chairman with two other Region IV WIN members from two (2) unique sites to serve on the committee.
- Amendments
The WIN Region IV Board approves all proposed amendments to the bylaws by a majority vote.
